BAA carry out continual improvements to airport terminals and other buildings. Key to these projects is ensuring that they become integrated with ongoing airport life with minimal disruption to daily operations.
To this end, a major part of the work is logistical, allowing passengers to flow smoothly through the terminals, and the thousands of flights that they board to depart and arrive on time.
To aid in one such project Blakley Electrics designed and manufactured a powder coated sheet steel enclosure with a door secured via a BAA dedicated electronic lock, activated by use of a swipe card. Contained within the unit is an IP67 400V interlocked socket and four IP67 rated Ethernet outlets.
Incorporated in the door is a lockable flap which can only be unlocked when the enclosure is open. The flap, when unlocked, allows cabling to be routed through the aperture covered by the flap, and for the enclosure door to be closed and locked shut, thereby preventing unauthorised access to the power and data outlets, even when the unit is in use.
The main enclosure is supported by a pedestal stand that has a removable rear panel, providing access to the incoming supply cable.
Two of these assemblies were fitted externally by NG Bailey, at London Heathrow, ready to be used should the need arise.
