Blakley Electrics Ltd has recently designed and supplied a substantial electrical distribution panel to the brand new Medway Campus of Mid-Kent College. Based in Gillingham, this is an £86M new extension to this long established facility.
This large panel (3.5M long and 2M tall) provides specialist bench and workshop supplies for the technical areas, along with conventional 230V distribution. Each laboratory bench can be individually provided with a range of different voltages, including 173V, 87V and 43V three phase, 100V, 50V and 25V single phase, and variable DC of up to 110V. Selector switches are provided for each bench to control the selection of each voltage. In total, the panel can individually provide supplies to 22 separate desks. There is a 230V distribution board built in for other workshop supplies, along with direct feeds for other equipment such as motors. The whole assembly can be controlled by local and remote emergency stop buttons.
The panel was a one-off bespoke panel manufactured to a very tight timescale and designed to exactly fit within the space available within the installation. Full technical support was provided for the contractor and the college itself.
