Ballylumford Power Station

Ballylumford power station is a natural gas-fired power station in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, owned and operated by AES Ballylumford Limited. With its main plant generating 600 megawatts of electricity, it is Northern Ireland's largest power station and provides half of the country's power. Overall the station produces 1316 megawatts and is located at the tip of the Islandmagee peninsula, which separates Larne Lough from the Irish Sea.

Isolation Transformers for HOT Sites

A HOT site is a high voltage installation (400kV, 132kV, 33kV, etc.) where the Earth Potential Rise (EPR) that can occur during an earth fault can exceed 430V. For installations at these sites, there is a risk that the EPR could be exported onto the HV or LV network and into a consumer’s premises, where it could cause danger to life or damage to property. Please note that all National Grid sites are generally classified as HOT.

Mobile Power Clusters

Large industrial complexes often have a requirement for multiple voltages around a plant, whether for ad hoc maintenance or planned shutdowns. As an alternative to installing fixed Power Clusters at strategic locations around a site, it is sometimes more economic, particularly on established sites, to adopt mobile distribution assemblies, which can plug into existing 400V sockets.

Safer On-Site Testing

In order to enhance on-site safety, Blakley Electrics have produced a series of Mains Distribution Assemblies (MDAs) fitted with test sockets, which enable a range of installation tests to be carried out “live” and with a very high degree of safety. The fitting of test sockets eliminates the need to remove shield plates or terminal covers and allows essential testing of RCDs and the measurement of earth fault loop impedance, etc., to be carried out safely and with minimal disruption to a project.

Rail Maintenance Depot with DC Immune RCD Protection

When a new train line is opened or there is an upgrade to an existing line, new repair and maintenance facilities may also need to be provided or existing facilities updated. The facilities can be comparatively limited, to enable cleaning and rudimentary repairs to be carried out or they can involve a much higher level of investment to enable significant repairs and planned maintenance to be undertaken, to minimise disruption to services.

New Generation of Dockside Service Units

Back in 1992, Blakley Electrics supplied a total of 20 no. 630A Dockside Service Units (DSUs) to one of the UK’s major Naval bases. After nearly 25 years of service in very harsh environments, SOME of the units now need replacing.

The design of the New Generation of DSUs takes into account the experience gained by users and maintainers of the equipment over an extended installation period and it is expected that an even longer service life will be achieved with the new assemblies.

Automatic Changeover Assemblies for Rail Signalling

Standard Blakley AMF and ATS automatic changeover assemblies incorporate pairs of contactors or ACBs controlled by a Deep Sea Electronics controller. The Deep Sea device is very flexible and can be configured on site, which is useful if the exact characteristics of the generator, or any other aspects of the installation, are not completely finalised at the time of supply.

Riyadh Metro Project

The Riyadh Metro Project is the Mass Transit Rail System currently being constructed in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is a significant, fast track project consisting of 6 rail lines, 176km of track, 85 stations and a budget of around $22.5 billion. 35km of track in central Riyadh runs under ground and a total of 7 tunnel boring machines are carving out the massive 10 metre diameter tunnels deep beneath the city (by comparison, the Crossrail tunnels are “only” 6.2M in diameter). Work started on site in 2014 and the first trains are due to run in 2019.

Since its launch at the start of 2012, Flori-67/3P, Blakley Electrics’ unique plug-in 110V lighting system, has been widely adopted by the UK Construction and Civil Engineering sectors. Tube Train Maintenance Depots

The London Underground Tube network is the oldest mass transit system in the world and carries in excess of 1.25 billion passengers per annum. The system is split into eleven lines and runs for 7 days a week with only a short period each night for track, station and train maintenance. To service and maintain the trains, each line has its own maintenance depot (or depots) where repairs, cleaning and routine maintenance all take place over night.

High Current Switchboards

To complement our range of heavy duty MCB and fuse boards, Blakley Electrics also produces higher current distribution assemblies incorporating outgoing MCCBs or switch fuses.  Although these assemblies are made to order, many basic designs are established, which helps to reduce manufacturing lead times and lessens the burden of design costs.
