Dockside Service Unit, 1600A, Double Fronted

Overview

Dockside Service Units (DSU) are purpose built, permanent outdoor distribution assemblies, which can be installed in very exposed locations where there is little or no shelter for equipment or users. Towards the end of 2024 we received an order for 4 no. double fronted DSUs rated at 1600A, which featured the addition of an outer GRP housing over the stainless steel bodied panel, which provided a high level of protection for equipment and operatives alike. Also, each DSU was mounted on a heavy duty base with fork lift pockets, making it relatively easy to relocate the complete assembly around the yard (please note: the complete assembly weighs in at 2.4 tonnes).

In addition to these features, the specification of the DSUs was to a very high standard. The inner enclosure was rated to IP55 and fabricated from stainless steel with a high quality painted finish. The enclosure has internal segregation to Form 4, with each outgoing terminal chamber key interlocked with its supply MCCB, ensuring the chamber can only be accessed when the MCCB is in the open position (the key cannot be released from the MCCB unless the MCCB is open). The DSU also incorporated a 630A rated, plug-in, stand-by generator connection arrangement, interlocked with the mains incomer. The assembly incorporated a surge protection device and each of the incoming 4P MCCBs incorporated integral power metering and each outgoing 4P MCCB (2 no. rated at 400A and 12 no. rated at 250A) incorporated individual variable time and current RCD protection. The assembly also incorporated a PAS800 combined panel server and data logger (with UPS back-up) allowing connection of the DSU to a BMS system via an RJ45 socket. A fibre switch was also supplied. Due to the harsh environment, the interior of the main panel incorporated thermostatically controlled heaters and both sides of the GRP housing incorporated an internal light.
