Outdoor Event Distribution Assembly, 2500A

Overview

Blakley Electrics has a proud history of designing and manufacturing distribution equipment used at the most prestigious outdoor events around the world. A recent project involved the design and manufacture of 8 no. 2500A distribution assemblies, which transitioned from screen to reality in the first few months of 2025. Despite the short initial lead time, the assemblies were built to last and should be in service for the next 20 years or more, thanks to their sturdy construction, corrosion resistant enclosures fabricated from ferritic stainless steel and the protection provided by a heavy duty galvanized crash frame, which also allowed 4 way access for fork lift trucks.

The incoming supply was via single core flexible cables and up to 12 no. 240mm2 cables per phase can be terminated. The incoming termination chamber could be accessed from the front and rear of the enclosure, and hinged sub-doors with view windows were incorporated on both sides, enabling terminations to be inspected whilst in use. For speed of installation, the cables entered the assembly via brushed strips. The incoming device was a Schneider MTZ series 2500A 4P ACB with integral metering and an FDM121 display.

On the outgoing side 8 no. Schneider NSX400H 4P MCCBs with 400A Micrologic 5.3E trips were fitted. The trips were connected to a common FDM128 display. Each MCCB had an associated Schneider RHU series VIGIREX MRCD controlled via a key operated switch. Each MCCB / MRCD supplied a set of 5 no. Powerlock connectors.

The assembly also incorporated a thermostatically controlled heater, a surge protection device and a PAS800L server with UPS back-up. IP rated, plug-in fibre and RJ45 connections were provided enabling the status and settings of key internal equipment (distribution MCCBs, MRCDs, Metering, SPD, UPS) to be monitored remotely.
